Instead, you should spend your money on Stores and Properties, which will increase your income. Whilst you may be tempted to buy all upgrades that you can afford, it is cost-effective to refrain from buying them early, unless you feel you really need to. See the 'Upgrades' page for information on all of the upgrades in the game. When purchased, the upgrades will help with the natural progression of the story and activities, and eventually you can be almost invincible. Once you have completed the third mission of the game, you will have access to the Upgrades Menu on your Cell Phone. You can also change the difficulty at any time by accessing the pause menu. If you are having particular trouble with a mission/activity, it is recommended that you focus your efforts elsewhere, and then return once you have upgraded your abilities.
You should make yourself aware of the challenges as soon as possible, as some (Gang Members Taunted for example) are much easier to complete earlier in the game. In addition to this, there are 41 challenges that you can make progress towards by working on the above.
You may be tempted to play through the story as soon as possible, but there are many activities, assassinations and vehicle thefts available to you from the third mission.
